Dust Suppressant Coatings

Dust, bound to the granule

High fertiliser dust levels negatively affect health, the environment, and infrastructure. During handling, the excessive dust can limit operator visibility and create Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) exposure risks. Plume dust leaving the fertiliser facility could be seen as a hazard and a breach of environmental regulations. Excessive dust and fines in a fertiliser stockpile can draw moisture, cause caking and accelerate fertiliser degradation.

Crommelin AgriCoatings FDS (Fertiliser Dust Suppressant) is an environmentally friendly coating formulated to bind dust particles back onto the granule surface, improving handling, storage performance, and fertiliser product integrity.

Suitable Fertiliser Types

FDS is suitable for use with all granular fertiliser types. Its low moisture content makes it particularly well-suited to fertiliser grades prone to surface re-crystallisation in the presence of moisture.

How It Is Applied

FDS is applied via conveyor belt coating systems, auger or screw conveyor systems, or batch and continuous coating drums. A single, low-dose application during fertiliser dispatch is sufficient to remove dust before farm distribution, on-farm silo storage, or shed storage. FDS can also be applied during intake to manage in-store dust levels.

The coating sets to a thin film on the granule surface, entrapping dust particles within the film body. It does not require drying or curing. Unlike mineral or vegetable oils, FDS does not migrate into the granule, does not leave the surface brittle, and does not revert to a dusty finish after extended storage.

Performance

High dust binding capacity as it forms a film unaffected by environmental conditions

Long-lasting performance, dependent on storage conditions and base fertiliser quality

Prevents caking during storage, ensuring free-flowing fertiliser

Minimises stock shrinkage and associated losses

Allows more accurate filling of carts and vessels by limiting dust-related measurement errors

Soil and Environmental Properties

FDS is soil-beneficial and contains no harmful, hazardous, or toxic components. It is naturally electrostatic, which supports soil aggregate formation, water retention, and soil aeration.
