Nutrient Addition Coatings

Micronutrients that stay attached
Crommelin AgriCoatings’ SATS (Supplement Attachment Technology System) product range is a series of micronutrient coatings formulated to attach directly to granular fertiliser at the point of dispatch or blending. The coating sets within seconds, forming a stable, dust-free film that does not chip, dislodge during storage, or degrade through multiple handling phases.
SATS coatings are fully biodegradable, soil-beneficial, and contain components that stimulate soil microbial activity, making nutrients more plant-available at the root zone.
Available Nutrients
The SATS range covers zinc (ZnO), copper (CuO), zinc-copper combinations, sulphur, manganese, molybdenum, and boron. Most formulations carry a 50% elemental value, for example, SATS Zn is a zinc oxide dispersion containing 500g Zn/kg.
Combined formulations are also available: SATS ZnCu, for instance, delivers 333g Zn + 167g Cu per kilogram of product. Formulations are adapted to client requirements.
Custom blends and alternative elemental ratios are available on request. Application rates typically range from 0.1 %–2.5 %, achieving 0.3 %–0.8 % elemental value in the finished product.

How It Works
SATS suspensions are applied to granular fertiliser in a coating drum, cylinder, mixer, auger, ribbon blender, or well-designed belt coating system. The process is compatible with both continuous and batch blending setups. Application rates typically range from 0.1% to 2.5%, achieving up to 1% elemental value in the finished product.
No powder handling is required. No specialist equipment is needed beyond a standard blending setup. The coating requires no drying or curing beyond contact time; granules can be dispatched, bagged, or blended directly after application.

Logistical Advantages
SATS allows nutrients to be added to fertiliser on demand, removing the need for distributors to stock a wide range of pre-blended grades. A single base fertiliser can be converted into multiple nutrient specifications at the point of dispatch, simplifying storage, stock management, and distribution.
Nutrient Uptake
Zinc and copper oxide particles in SATS coatings are taken up by plant roots through dissolution and facilitated diffusion, or direct nanoparticle internalisation, endocytosis, phytosiderophore-assisted uptake, and via symbiotic mycorrhizal pathways. Particle size distribution is controlled to balance agronomic availability against phytotoxicity risk.
